Obesity and Cardiovascular Disease

A close correlation can be identified between heart failure and obesity. Obesity increases risks of cardiovascular diseases by involving the changes in body composition which can affect hemodynamics by altering the heart structure. Obesity may also lead to hypertension, enlarged left ventricle and more risks of heart failure. The mineralocorticoid receptor expression and aldosterone level are increased due to obesity, promoting interstitial platelet aggregation, endothelial dysfunction and cardiac fibrosis.
